Driver experience days
This event is for all Associates, Full Members and Observers who would like to expand their knowledge of their vehicle's handling characteristics.
Perhaps you've recently changed your vehicle and would like to explore more of the handling, roadholding and braking of your shiny new machine than would be safe on the road. It doesn't involve a whole day and if there something that you don't want to do, you don't have to. On the other hand, if there is something (within reason) that you have wanted to try with your car we can try it!
So, what do you do? Well, nothing dangerous for a start. It's fundamentally steering and braking exercises with plenty of run-off area to make it safe. Plus you get to drive around the Test Track at Ford's Technical Centre in Dunton. That's it. After all, what's so challenging about driving you car in a 'figure of eight' for instance? Or trying out the ABS system on you car? Do you realise how capable and safe the modern car really is? Or are you, the driver, really the weak link in the system?
Try driving around some of the multi storey car parks in Chelmsford. Next time you're in one have a look at the walls on your way round - the marks suggest some drivers could do with some practice in a safer environment. How good are you at braking? We should all be pretty good but when do we ever practice except when it may be too late?
Come and give it a try and have some fun. This event runs at various times during the year, normally on a Sunday starting around 9:30am. Keep checking the calendar online and the group's newsletter for dates.
For more information or to book a place please contact Graham Lowe.
The Group asks for a minimum donation of £25 from each driver who takes part - otherwise the event is free. All donations go to the Essex Air Ambulance.
Please note that this event is organised by the Group for Associates and Members of the Chelmsford Group only.
